Jersey Airport said it was "playing its part" in creating a more sustainable future for the island

Jersey Airport has been recognised for its efforts to boost sustainability and reduce carbon emissions.

The airport has been awarded a Level 4 transformation status by Airport Carbon Accreditation, a global carbon management certification programme for airports.

Ports of Jersey said the recognition reflected its commitment to achieve net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030.

Sophie Alexander, the airport's head of sustainability and community, said "it was a huge achievement" which showed "a fundamental shift" in the way the site operated.

Ports of Jersey said the accreditation recognised a number of initiatives which included changing vehicles and equipment, and converting its terminal heating to hydro-treated vegetable oil.

It said it had introduced a private and business aviation decarbonisation charge to help fund future carbon reduction projects and had invested in other energy efficiency measures including LED lighting and smart metering.

The Ports said it would continue to invest in low-carbon technologies.
