Watch: Archive of Hadleigh supermarket protest

This is the moment residents in Hadleigh protested against plans for Tesco supermarket during a campaign that lasted 26 years.

Proposals for a Tesco store in the Suffolk market town were first rejected in 1987 and the scheme finally came to an end in 2013 with the retail giant scrapping plans.

Almost two decades later, Members of Babergh District Council's planning committee rejected supermarket firm Lidl's application to build a store.

The decision came after members voted voted eight to one against the proposal for Lady Lane.
