New flag for town's inaugural celebration day
Telford & Wrekin CouncilA new borough flag will be flown for the first time this weekend, following a competition to design it which was won by a local schoolgirl.
Amelia's winning entry in the Telford flag competition will be hoisted into position at Southwater Square at 13:30 GMT on Saturday as part of the borough's inaugural Telford Day celebrations.
The nine-year-old's design features the Ironbridge, along with a cog in reference to industrial heritage, and the colour green to represent its parks and open spaces
"We've had such a fantastic response to the new Telford flag, with so many positive comments and many people asking how they get their hands on a copy," said council leader Lee Carter.
"Whether you want to get it printed on a T-shirt, add it to a company website or get a sticker for your car, it would be great to see as many people as possible adopt the flag and to be as proud of it as we are."
He added: "Amelia should be really proud of what she has achieved in creating a flag to represent our borough that we hope creates civic pride for many years to come."
The new Telford Day is a day for residents and visitors to come together to celebrate, and mark the date the town was formed on 29 November 1968.
Telford & Wrekin CouncilAmelia thanked all those who had voted for her design, and congratulated the other entrants in the competition.
"I'm really happy I've won the flag competition, I think we all did really well," she said.
"I am excited to see my flag flying."
Her mum Jayne added: "We are incredibly proud of Amelia for winning the flag competition. Her design was creative and thoughtful and reflected Telford so well."
Telford Day will also see a Made in Telford Christmas Makers Market, as well as a variety of other activities, culminating in a lantern parade at 17:30 and live music from 19:00.
