The cash will be used to promote physical activity as a way of preventing ill health

A sports organisation has been awarded £510,000 to help people move more and reduce health inequalities.

The funding from Sport England has been given to Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin to support people who "face the greatest barriers to being active".

The charity said its use of the money would not involve "a programme of isolated projects, but a co-ordinated approach that places physical activity at the heart of preventing ill health".

Energize chief executive Peter Ezard told the BBC they would be working with Shropshire Council, the NHS and the voluntary sector, who were "absolutely crucial to everything we do".

Energize said funding would provide "the time and investment needed across both a systemic and local level" to explore what was required to better support people "experiencing the most inequalities".

"Furthermore, to have equitable opportunity to gaining the benefits of movement for their physical and mental wellbeing," it added.
