Shaun Davies said asylum hotels like Madeley Court were "deeply unfair for people" who had been "left in limbo"

A hotel that was being used to house asylum seekers has "officially closed," an MP has said.

Shaun Davies, who represents Telford, said he had written to the owners of Madeley Court Hotel to "discuss next steps for bringing the hotel back into community use".

Davies said he had "consistently raised concerns" about the hotel to Parliament, Home Office ministers and to the prime minister, "emphasising that hotels are not suitable places to house people seeking asylum".

According to Davies, the closure of Madeley Court means there are no Home Office approved premises left in the Telford constituency.

He added: "Relying on hotels has also been extremely costly for taxpayers, at times up to £8m per day.

"More importantly, it is deeply unfair for people to be left in limbo, waiting for decisions on their asylum claims."
