Water quality at Firestone Bay in Plymouth has been rated excellent since 2023

Swimmers were warned to stay out of the water at a popular Plymouth spot after a rainbow sheen was spotted on the surface.

The Environment Agency (EA) said water quality at Firestone Bay has been rated excellent since 2023, but issued temporary advice against bathing after the slick was reported.

However, the advice has now been lifted after the slick was dispersed naturally by the tide and wave action, said the EA.

The bay was given official bathing water status in 2023, meaning it is now regularly tested during the summer season after years of locals swimming there. Water quality information is published on the government's Swimfo page.
