Police worker jailed over child sex offence

A police staff member has been jailed for six years after trying to arrange sexual activity with a child.

Christopher Thompson, 33, from Doncaster, was working for West Yorkshire Police in the force's regional scientific support services at the time of his arrest.

Det Ch Supt Tanya Wilkins said he had been involved in some "concerning behaviour online" and as part of this had tried to arrange sexual activity with a child.

Thompson was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court on Tuesday after earlier being found guilty of trying to arrange sexual activity with a child under 13 as well as two counts of making indecent photographs of a child and sending communication conveying a threatening message.

He was also added to the Sex Offenders Register for life and made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and indefinite restraining orders in relation to two victims.

Police said after he was arrested a number of devices were seized and indecent images of children were found on them.

The force said Thompson was suspended from duty after his arrest and misconduct proceedings had begun with "a view to him being barred from working in any further role within policing".
