A man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing.

Dean Fishwick, 51, died in hospital after being found injured at a property on Thames Road in Peterlee shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

Kenneth Fishwick, 53 and also from Peterlee, appeared before magistrates on Saturday charged with murder. No plea was entered and he was remanded in custody to next appear at Teesside Crown Court on 29 September.

A spokesperson for the force said a 73-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder had been bailed, while a 77-year-old man previously arrested for the same offence had been released under investigation.

Detetcives are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
