The change will effectively plug an overnight gap in train connections from the airport

Trains will run to Manchester Airport through the night next month as part of the roll out of a new rail timetable.

TransPennine Express (TPE) will add eight new overnight services between the UK's third busiest airport and Manchester Piccadilly from 17 May, roughly every hour.

A TPE spokesperson said the changes would improve connectivity for passengers travelling early in the morning or late at night.

The 08:05 weekday services between Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly will now also call at Dewsbury to help students and commuters on early morning journeys, TPE said.

Typically the last rail services left and arrived at the airport station from about 00:00

The changes comes as part of the wider national switch to a new timetable on 17 May.
