Two more people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was hit by a car near Barnsley on Friday evening, police have said.

Officers said the 45-year-old died at the scene after he was struck by a white VW Touareg on Rose Tree Avenue, Cudworth, at about 17:00 BST on Friday.

A 60-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday.

On Saturday, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed a 33-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy had also been arrested on suspicion of murder. All four suspects remain in custody.

Det Ch Insp Simon Cartwright said Rose Tree Avenue would remain closed as investigations continued and urged anyone with information to contact South Yorkshire Police.

He said: "Our investigation into this tragic incident is still in its early stages and our thoughts first and foremost are with the victim's family, friends and loved ones."
