Teenager seriously hurt in suspected drink-drive crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash that left a teenage boy seriously injured.

Northamptonshire Police said the collision involved the driver of a black Audi A4 and a cyclist. It happened on Burleigh Road, near the junction with Kingsthorpe Road in Northampton, at about 23:50 BST on Tuesday.

The boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital for treatment.

Officers said a 20-year-old man from Northampton was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and driving whilst unfit through alcohol.

Police added that the man remained in police custody.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen either the car or cyclist travelling in the area prior to the incident is asked to call 101.
