'Serious collision' closes A-road for most of day
BBCA large section of the A45 in Northamptonshire was expected to remain closed for most of the day after a crash.
The eastbound carriageway has been closed between the Barnes Meadow interchange and Earls Barton, while the westbound carriageway has been shut between the Wilby Way roundabout and Great Doddington, with a second westbound closure at the Great Billing interchange.
The road closure was first shared by National Highways at about 02:40 BST, with drivers advised to stay away from the area.
Northamptonshire Police described the incident as a "serious road traffic collision", and said the carriageway was "expected to remain closed for much of the day".
"There is no access to the A45 from the Wilby Way roundabout in Wellingborough through to the Bedford Road junction in Northampton," the force added.
National Highways said there was currently no way to provide an estimate on when the road would reopen but it could take several hours.
Diversions were put in place and posted on the National Highways website.
Traffic information service Inrix reported the road was fully open at the Wilby Way Roundabout in Wellingborough to the Great Billing Interchange.
