'We wouldn't do it again,' says council over hotel
Peterborough City Council has admitted regret over its involvement in an unfinished hotel, as a new developer takes on the site.
The 160-bed Hilton Garden Inn at Fletton Quays has been sold to Leisure & Co Hotel Ltd and is expected to open next summer, following years of delays to the project.
Mohammed Jamil, the Labour councillor overseeing the council's finances, said the authority "should not really be proud" of its investment in the building.
Former Conservative council leader Wayne Fitzgerald, whose administration agreed a £15m loan in 2017 to fund the hotel before the developer went bust, said his party had no regrets.
