Free boat rides to push community 'climate action'
SKDCCanal boat rides and guided nature walks are among the activities being held in Lincolnshire to encourage people to learn more about living sustainably.
South Kesteven District Council said its programme of free events, which begins on 6 June, was aimed at raising awareness of climate change and how to protect nature.
It is part of the Great Big Green Week, a national campaign which runs until 14 June.
Serena Brown, the authority's sustainability and climate change manager, said: "Small changes can make a big difference, whether that's reducing waste, travelling differently or spending more time in nature."
A council spokesperson said the events were designed to help residents learn more about recycling, food waste and travelling actively, such as cycling or walking.
The 30-minute boat rides are due to take place at the Grantham Canal Society Depot in Woolsthorpe by Belvoir, between 10:00 and 15:00 BST on 6 June, while the one-day free guided walk around Grantham's Wyndham Park is to begin from the visitor centre at 13:30 on 9 June.
Other activities include a series of online webinars on energy efficiency and the role of community orchards, as well as a free bicycle marking scheme to help people protect their bikes from theft.
Brown said she hoped the events would inspire people to get involved locally while contributing to wider climate efforts.
"By joining this national campaign, we can show our support for protecting nature and tackling climate change," she said.
