Firework display will go ahead despite dry weather

A firework display to round off Aylesbury's Parklife Weekend will go ahead - despite the recent dry and hot weather, a council has confirmed.

The display at about 21:30 BST on Sunday will mark the end of the event organised by Aylesbury Town Council.

After a number of people said it was "unwise, ridiculously inappropriate and madness" online, the council said it was "proactively working" with the professional fireworks display suppliers on its safety.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue said organisers of outside events "should continue to monitor conditions, undertake appropriate risk assessments, and review their plans accordingly".

The council said: "We have seen the concerns raised regarding the planned fireworks display and appreciate residents sharing their views.

"To reassure residents, we are proactively working with our professional fireworks display suppliers for the safety of this year's display at Proms in the Park.

"Risk assessments, method statements and inclement weather procedures are in place and will be followed if it is deemed unsafe to fire either in advance or on the day."

It added that the safety of visitors, volunteers and open spaces "is always our primary concern, and all necessary steps are in place to prevent any issues".

The fire service said: "We understand the concern that fireworks may present during the current period of prolonged dry weather and appreciate you taking the time to contact us.

"As with all outdoor activities, organisers should continue to monitor conditions, undertake appropriate risk assessments, and review their plans accordingly.

"We would also encourage members of the public to remain vigilant and report any fire-related emergencies immediately by calling 999."
