A World Cup window display trail has been proposed for Inverness to help celebrate Scotland's first appearance in the men's tournament since 1998.

Inverness Business Improvement District (Bid) has asked shops and other businesses to decorate their premises in the build up to the games in June.

Chairman Gavin Johnston said the organisation hoped to create a "real buzz" across the city centre.

He said: "This is a great opportunity to come together, get involved, and enjoy the atmosphere."

Johnston added: "When it comes to moments like this, as far as we're concerned - no city centre, no party,"

Jennifer Nivet, practice manager of Hall Opticians, said "big plans" were already in place for the Church Street store, including footballs, flags and fake grass.

She said she always went a "bit mad" when it came to decorating.

Alan Cairney, from Brook Taverner in Academy Street, said the clothes shop was also keen to take part.

He said that with tickets and travel for the tournament being so expensive it would be nice to "bring a bit of excitement" to Inverness for those who would not be in the stadiums.

Last month, bars and pubs across the Highlands were granted extended hours for Scotland's games.
