In January, the city council said more than 7,500 potholes would be fixed this year in Wolverhampton

More than a dozen roads in Wolverhampton are to be resurfaced during June and July.

Mander Street, Great Hampton Street and Butts Road are among those earmarked for improvement work as part of a £50m investment to reduce potholes.

Further resurfacing projects will take place later in the summer on Stafford Road island at Three Tuns Lane, with work taking place at night where possible, the City of Wolverhampton Council said.

The authority knew people wanted to see the work carried out, Bhupinder Gakhal, cabinet member for city transport, said.

"Safe, well-maintained roads are essential to our residents, businesses and visitors, which is why we continue to heavily invest in our highways network," he said.

"We know people want to see full resurfacing happening and that is exactly what we are delivering more of, building on the work already carried out across the city."

Carrying out other preventative work can help reduce the number of urgent pothole repairs needed in the long term, he added.

Dozens of roads will have a surface dressing treatment to prevent potholes forming and the first phase of preparatory repairs have been carried out, with crews returning later in the summer to complete surface treatment and re-lining, the council said.

In January, the city council said more than 7,500 potholes will be fixed this year in Wolverhampton.

The Asphalt Industry Alliance, the industry body that oversees road surfacing, has estimated fixing all potholes on local roads in England and Wales would be an estimated £18.6bn, with a cost to each local authority put at about £145.9m.
