City council is awarded funding for its resurfacing and pothole-filling work

Roads and pavements across Brighton and Hove are to benefit from extra funding for an improvement programme.

The city council has been awarded £1.4m in funding from the Department for Transport towards its ongoing resurfacing and pothole-filling work.

In total, the authority in East Sussex said it will be spending £8.8m on road and pavement maintenance during 2026 and 2027.

Trevor Muten, cabinet member for transport and city infrastructure, described the government award as a "testament to the hard work being done by the team".

He said: "Residents are seeing a visible improvement in the condition of our roads.

"We've invested in better technology, gathered more detailed information and developed a far clearer understanding of the condition of our road network.

"That data has given us a more honest picture of what needs fixing and where investment will have the greatest impact."
