Further five candidates named in Makerfield by-election

A further five candidates have been announced ahead of the Makerfield by-election in Greater Manchester.

Standing as independents are John Dyer, Paul Gould and Robert Pownall - with Ed Gemmell announced as the Climate Party's candidate and Count Binface running for the Count Binface Party.

There are now a total of 14 hopefuls set to contest the parliamentary seat on 18 June.

The by-election was called after Labour's Josh Simons announced he was standing down.

The other confirmed candidates in the Makerfield by-election are:

• Jake Austin, Liberal Democrats
• Andy Burnham, Labour Party
• Dan Clarke, Libertarian Party
• Alan "Howlin" Laud Hope, The Official Monster Raving Loony Party
• Robert Kenyon, Reform UK
• Rebecca Shepherd, Restore Britain
• Sarah Wakefield, Green Party
• Peter Ward, Rejoin EU
• Michael Winstanley, Conservative Party
