Restore Britain has announced Rebecca Shepherd as its candidate.

The Restore Britain party has announced its candidate in the Makerfield parliamentary by-election.

Local businesswoman Rebecca Shepherd, 53, was described by the party as "understanding first-hand the pressures facing local businesses and working families across the area".

The party, which was created by Great Yarmouth MP Rupert Lowe in February after he left Reform UK, is the first to confirm a candidate.

The contest was triggered by the resignation of the Labour MP for Makerfield, Josh Simons.

Restore Britain leader Lowe said Shepherd "would fight for the interests of the community, rather than political careers".
