Litter 'carnage' at pool after hot weekend

A popular outdoor pool in Wolverhampton was left strewn with litter after the blazing Bank Holiday weekend, officials said.

Hundreds flocked to Tettenhall Pool to make the most of the heat, but councillor Sohail Khan raised concerns over the state it was left in.

"To say it was carnage would be an understatement," Khan said. "The amount of rubbish left behind was completely unacceptable[...] creating an unpleasant environment for residents and visitors alike."

The Wolverhampton councillor also said parking restrictions in the area were ignored over the weekend - with roads blocked and driveways obstructed, while enforcement officers suffered abuse.

"That is not acceptable anywhere in Wolverhampton," Khan said.

The councillor said the pool was "a fantastic facility for everyone to enjoy", adding that nobody wanted families to stop having fun but that enjoying a public space came with responsibilities.

"What concerns me most is that, if this behaviour continues, it risks jeopardising the future of the facility itself," he said.

"If people continue to abuse the area, there will inevitably be calls for stricter enforcement, restrictions, or other measures that nobody wants to see introduced.

"Please do not be the reason that a much-loved community facility becomes subject to tighter controls because of the actions of a minority."

Khan said he had contacted the city's council on Tuesday to request a meeting to discuss further measures to improve safety and traffic management for residents and visitors.
