Zest describes itself as one of the UK's fastest growing electric vehicle (EV) charge point operators

Thousands of electric vehicle (EV) charging points will be installed across a borough in Essex to encourage motorists to switch to more eco-friendly transport.

Zest will deliver 4,046 public charging points across Thurrock over the next 15 years after being awarded a long-term contract by the council.

Supported by the government's local electric vehicle infrastructure fund, around 98% of the scheme will be funded by the EV charge point operator.

Robin Heap, CEO of Zest, said Thurrock was taking a "proactive approach" to building the "resilient infrastructure" needed for the transition to EVs.

"This partnership will deliver a reliable and equitable charging network that supports communities across the borough," he added.

As part of the programme, a mix of lamppost chargers and fast AC and rapid DC charging points will be distributed across the borough.

Locations will be prioritised to support households with on-street parking and areas currently underserved by public charging.

Around 35 existing charging points will also be transferred onto the Zest network to improve "reliability and user experience" for motorists already using the sites.

The hope is the new sites will be accessible and convenient, making it easier for drivers to switch to EVs.

"We are proud to support Thurrock in delivering infrastructure that will serve residents for years to come," added Heap.
