A senior police officer has pleaded not guilty to child sex offences.

Det Insp Ian Macnab from Southwater in West Sussex is accused of sexual assault and sexual activity with a child, which Sussex Police said was related to his role as a football coach between 2024 and 2025.

The 51-year-old also pleaded not guilty to a charge of perverting the course of justice at a hearing at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday.

A provisional date for his trial has been set for August 2027.
