Two men sentenced after man woken and attacked
Sussex PoliceTwo men have been given suspended sentences after attacking and wounding a man who later died.
Cameron Devlin, 34, died after developing sepsis linked to a shoulder injury sustained when he fell to the floor and was repeatedly kicked by a group of men in North Street, Brighton, in December 2019.
Oliver Priddle and Niraj Amaidas were both found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, but a jury found that the pair were not culpable for Devlin's death.
Amaidas, 25, from Crawley was given a three year suspended sentence, while Priddle, 26, from Brighton, was given a suspended sentence of two years and nine months.
Devlin had fallen asleep outside a shop during a night out on 21 December, when he was approached and woken, police said.
Emergency teams were called following the attack and police arrested four men at Brighton railway station. A fifth arrest followed in January 2020.
Priddle and Amaidas were charged in 2025, while the three other men who had been arrested were released without charge in 2020.
Devlin died on 26 December, 2019, five days after the attack.
Det Insp James Meanwell, of the Major Crime Team, said: "Nothing can make up for the tragic loss of Cameron, a much beloved husband, son, brother and friend; a young man whose devastating loss will continue to be felt by his family, friends and all who knew him."
