An 18-year-old man has died after a bike hit a pelican crossing pole on the high street in Bilston, near Wolverhampton.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, following the incident at about 21:40 BST on Thursday.

A 14-year-old boy was also involved and sustained injuries that were not believed to be serious, West Midlands Police said.

It added the bike was no longer present at the scene when officers arrived and the force was "keen to establish where it is".

Police said they were reviewing CCTV and asking anyone with information to come forward.

The force added it was particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time and had dashcam footage.

Police said their thoughts were with the 18-year-old man's "loved ones at this devastating time".
