A branch of The Co-operative Bank in Wolverhampton is to shut in September, after it was acquired by Coventry Building Society Group (CBSG).

The group said the Dudley Street facility would close on 11 September, and from three days later The Co‑operative Bank customers could carry out their regular banking at the Coventry Building Society (CBS) site on Wulfrun Square.

It added the two branches were just 0.2 miles apart, "or a five minute walk", and that Co‑operative Bank customers would "benefit from longer opening hours", with the single "enhanced" facility open six days a week.

The group said bringing its teams together "allows us to offer a stronger city centre branch".

CBSG head of branch banking, Dan Crennell, stated Co‑operative Bank customers would have 12 extra hours each week to visit.

He said: "Excellent service is a priority for us, and our branch network continues to play a really important role in how we support our customers and members."

The "dual servicing" on Wulfrun Square from 14 September would allow customers of The Co‑operative Bank to carry out regular banking alongside CBS members, the group said.

The branch was "benefiting from additional customer service space", designed to support increased footfall, it added.

The building society has previously said it officially completed the purchase of The Co-operative Bank on 1 January last year, adding: "We'll use our combined experience of almost 300 years to do more of the things that matter to you."

CBSG includes CBS and its subsidiaries, including The Co-operative Bank.
