Suspected unexploded ordnance found in docks

A 150m (492ft) cordon has been set up after suspected unexploded ordnance was found in a dock.

Devon and Cornwall Police said emergency services were called out after the object was found in Falmouth Docks at 09:15 BST.

The force said the cordon, which covers land and sea, has been put in place while an investigation is carried out and two homes have been evacuated.

Specialist explosive ordnance disposal officers have been contacted and members of the public and boat users have been asked to avoid the area, police added.

"There is currently no information to suggest any wider risk beyond the established cordon," a police spokesperson said.

"However, the public is urged not to approach the area or enter any restricted zones."

Crews from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, the coastguard, the port authority and the harbourmaster are also at the scene.
