Man charged after boy, 4, dies in off-road bike crash

A man has been charged after a four-year-old boy died in a crash between an off-road motorbike and a car in Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police said emergency services were called to Churchill Drive at about 18:00 BST on Sunday.

The boy, who was a passenger on the off-road bike, was declared dead at the scene.

Brian Cameron, 32, of Chatsworth Road, Newark, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, police said.

He has also been charged with driving while disqualified and causing death by driving while uninsured and unlicensed, police said.

A 24-year-old man, who was riding on the same bike as the boy, was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the crash, police said.

He suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.

The rider was travelling in convoy with a second bike and investigations led to the arrest of the 32-year-old on Monday, police said.

Det Insp Jamie Moore said: "The boy's loved ones continue to be supported by specialist officers and have been informed about this important update in our investigation.

"I would ask that their privacy is respected as they try to come to terms with what has happened.

"This is a deeply distressing incident for all those involved and I'd also urge people not to speculate online about the circumstances."
