Ongoing M4 disruption after coach crash fuel spill
Getty ImagesOne lane has reopened along a section of a motorway following a crash involving a coach and a car, which left a man in his 20s in a life-threatening condition.
Wiltshire Police said the incident occurred on the M4 westbound between J14 (Hungerford) and J15 (Swindon East), at about 02:35 BST on Sunday.
The force said a BMW and a National Express coach were involved, and the driver of the BMW was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
National Highways said the incident caused a "substantial spillage of oil and diesel" which meant a full resurfacing of the motorway was needed.
The motorway remained closed overnight for the works to be completed.
According to Wiltshire Police, the remaining two lanes are likely to remain closed "through rush hour and towards midday" as vehicle recovery work takes place.
In a statement, National Highways said: "Due to the severity and seriousness of the collision, a complex and protracted collision investigation by Wiltshire Police was required followed by vehicle recovery. This work was completed by 5.30pm.
"The collision resulted in a substantial spillage of oil and diesel.
"Following assessment of the road surface it has been determined that the road is not in a safe state to be re-opened to traffic and a full resurfacing is required."
Wiltshire Police have advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys, and urged anyone with relevant dash cam footage to get in touch.
