Arsonists thought to be behind toilets fire

A number of portable toilets in North East Lincolnshire have been damaged in what is thought to be an arson attack.

The incident happened at Cleethorpe's Pier Gardens on Tuesday in the early hours.

Humberside Fire and Rescue say the fire is "being treated as deliberate".

North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) is working to clear the site and restore facilities.

Two portable toilets were completely destroyed in the fire, while two others were damaged as well as a rubbish bin.

The toilets were installed, with a number of others, ahead of the Armed Forces' weekend in Cleethorpes, which attracted more than 200,000 people.

Humberside Police inquiries are underway after it is alleged somebody approached the toilets before setting them alight.

The council is working to clear the site and restore facilities.

A spokesperson said: "We’re aware of the antisocial behaviour that has led to several of the toilets being burned, with two completely destroyed and two badly damaged.

"This has been reported to the police".
