Drivers warned of A180 delays due to works

Motorists are being warned to expect delays on the A180 in Grimsby as a longer contraflow system is introduced as part of a major road improvement scheme.

The works, taking place between the Westgate and Lockhill roundabouts, involves resurfacing the road and replacing the central reservation barriers.

North East Lincolnshire Council said to allow resurfacing work on the eastbound carriageway towards Cleethorpes, the existing contraflow arrangement would be extended.

As a result, the council said the A180 would be closed overnight from 20:00 BST on 20 September to enable changes to the traffic management system.

Drivers are being advised to use alternative routes through Grimsby town centre during the closure, with the road reopening as soon as the traffic management changes have been completed.

The longer contraflow is scheduled to come into operation from 21 September, and is expected to remain in place for up to two weeks.

Once resurfacing has been completed, further phases of the project would begin, including the installation of new barriers in the central reservation, a spokesperson said.

The scheme is due to be completed by early November.
