Armed police have seized a BB gun following reports that a woman was in possession of a firearm in Edinburgh city centre.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested after officers were called to Princes Street shortly after 18:30 on Tuesday.

Police Scotland said the weapon, which must be licensed under certain circumstances, was recovered, but there was no further risk to the wider public.

A spokesperson for the force said inquiries into the incident were ongoing.
