The crash happened on Monday afternoon

A man has been arrested following a crash which left a woman with serious injuries and closed a road for several hours.

At about 16.40 BST on Monday, a white Fiat Doblo Cargo and a yellow Vauxhall Corsa were involved in a crash on the A46 Painswick Road near Brockworth, Gloucestershire.

The driver of the Corsa, a woman in her 20s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol; she remains in hospital and her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police arrested the driver of the Fiat van on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing serious injury by dangerous driving but he has since been released under investigation.

The man was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where his injuries were assessed before he was released and taken into police custody.

Gloucestershire Constabulary has asked anybody who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage, and has not already spoken to police, to get in touch.

The road closure, which was put in place between the junctions for Nuthill and Green Street, was lifted in the early hours of Tuesday morning and the vehicles involved in the crash were recovered.
