Baye Bireme Fall, 16, died after being stabbed on Sunday evening

The family of a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death have described him as an "amazing" son whose "heart was pure".

Baye Bireme Fall died after the incident in Riseholme near the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough just before 19:00 BST on Sunday.

A 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

"We are completely shattered and may never recover from the passing away of our son whose life was tragically cut short," said Baye's family, in a statement released by Cambridgeshire Police.

"Baye was an amazing boy and son whose heart is pure and kind towards other people.

"He was ever so ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. His kindness and generosity will never be forgotten."

A post-mortem examination is due to take place at Peterborough City Hospital later.

Cambridgeshire Police said the boy and a man arrested on suspicion of murder remained in custody after detectives were granted a 36-hour extension to their custody time limit from magistrates on Tuesday morning.

A 16-year-old girl from March, Cambridgeshire, has also been charged with possessing a knife/bladed article in a public place and is due to appear at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court on 13 May.

She and a 17-year-old girl were further arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and they remain on conditional bail for that offence.

Flowers have been left at the scene and various local people have described their shock to the BBC, including teenagers who said they were friends of Baye, describing him as a "sweet, pure soul" and "a lovely person".

Police have continued patrols in the area since Sunday. Anyone with information or relevant CCTV footage has been urged to contact the force.
