Green belt development sparks public meeting
LDRSA public meeting has been called to discuss a proposal to build up to 800 homes on green belt land in Worcestershire.
The development could be built at Church Farm in Claines, Worcester, on a 48-hectare site.
A meeting will be held on 26 June at 19:30 BST at Claines Royal British Legion, giving residents a chance to ask questions and share their views.
Councillor Mel Allcott, who represents Claines, said: "This meeting is about listening to residents, explaining the process, and making sure people understand how they can have their say."
The meeting has been organised by Allcott, along with fellow Lib Dem councillors for Claines, Karen Holmes and Jessie Jagger.
Allcott continued: "We are not opposed to new housing, but green belt land should only ever be considered as a last resort and in truly exceptional circumstances.
"We want residents to have the opportunity to understand the issues and make their voices heard before any formal application is submitted."
The site is still at the pre-application stage, and no formal planning application has been submitted to Worcester City Council.
But developer Summix is expected to submit a formal application later in the year, having held pre-application discussions with the authority.
The development is on a site stretching from Ombersley Road to Droitwich Road.
The site is not included in the recently approved south Worcestershire development plan review, which sets out where housing development should take place.
