Tractor run raises £1,000 in memory of farmer

A tractor run has been held to raise money for a dialysis unit in memory of a farmer who died with kidney disease.

The run in tribute to John Warne raised more than £1,000 for the renal unit at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. Warne died on New Year's Day 2026 aged 52.

The 33-mile journey involved 40 tractors of all shapes and sizes, driven by friends and family on 13 September.

The route took participants around the Roseland Peninsula, including Caerhays Beach and a drive through the Caerhays Castle grounds.

Organiser Phil Michell said: "We were pleased so many of John's friends, family and colleagues joined us for what was a great day to remember him.

"We embraced John's three favourite things - tractors, Cornish pasties and cider.

"We were delighted to have raised more than £1,000 in John's memory.

"This will be spent on purchasing pressure pads for the Renal Unit at Royal Cornwall Hospital, where John was well cared for by the team."

He added: "John received dialysis three times a week and the procedure takes quite a long time.

"The new pressure pads for the dialysis chairs will ensure that current and future patients have a far more comfortable experience whilst undergoing treatment and, crucially, will help prevent skin damage and pressure sores."
