Recycling centre closes for three months
BBCBeverley's household waste recycling centre has closed for three months because of renovation work to Weel Bridge.
The £1m project to improve the 1950s bridge, which crosses the River Hull, starts later.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the bridge would be closed with diversion routes in place along Weel Road and the A1035 Bridlington to Beverley road.
While the recycling centre is shut, residents have been advised to use the ones in Hornsea, Driffield and Hessle.
The renovation scheme, which was due to start in November 2025, was halted after residents shared concerns about pedestrian safety on the proposed diversion routes.
At a public meeting in October 2025, residents said they were worried pedestrians would have to share a single-track road with heavy traffic heading for a waste recycling centre as part of the diversion.
But the council said the recycling site would now be closed until the work is done.

The authority also said it would use the closure to improve the site's drainage to reduce future flooding.
It has advised people to use the centres at Hornsea, on Atwick Road; Driffield, on Church Lane; and Humberfield, on Boothferry Road in Hessle.
All sites are open seven days a week from 10:00 until 17:00 BST.
