Dozens of firefighters are tackling a large fire affecting a three-storey building in Stoke-on-Trent.

Crews are working at Stafford Street in Hanley to stop the blaze spreading to surrounding premises.

The fire is affecting the first and second floors of the building, as well as the loft space. About 40 firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 00:40 BST.

A cordon is in place with road closures affecting Stafford Street, Foundry Street, Trinity Street, Browns Alley and Fountain Square, up to the junction with Quadrant Road.

The disruption is expected to continue throughout the morning and could extend into the afternoon, Staffordshire Fire Service has said.

Six crews and two aerial ladders have been working at the scene.

Gas and structural engineers have also been called, with Staffordshire Police assisting with traffic management.

People are being advised to avoid the area.
