TikTok videos lead to boy's e-scooter destruction

A teenage boy had his e-scooter destroyed after he posted videos of himself riding recklessly on roads and paths.

The TikTok footage showed the 13-year-old riding the scooter at speed in Telford, Shropshire, enabling police to identify him.

He was arrested on 30 August on suspicion of careless driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance. He putting himself and other road users in danger, West Mercia Police said.

The e-scooter was seized by officers, and the teenager has been referred to the youth offending team, and he will take part in a course relevant to the offences committed, the force said.

E-scooters are available to buy but are illegal to use on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes and pedestrian-only areas unless part of an approved government rental scheme - of which there are none in Shropshire.

"The videos posted online showed a complete disregard, and reckless behaviour that put him and members of the public at risk," said PC George Oliver.

"We will continue to take action against anyone using e-scooters irresponsibly and would encourage anyone who witnesses dangerous riding to report it to us."
