Body found in river by police looking for swimmer

A man's body has been found by police searching for a swimmer who went missing in a Lancashire river.

The man disappeared after getting into difficulty in the River Ribble by Ribchester Road in Dinckley, near Ribchester, at about 13:00 GMT on Sunday, Lancashire Police said.

The force said a man's body was recovered from the river at about 16:00 GMT on Monday.

It is believed to be the missing man, who has not been named, and the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The rescue operation involved Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coast Guard and specialist police search teams.

Four swift water rescue units, two underwater sleds, and a boat with an underwater drone were all used in the search which started on Sunday, continuing overnight into Monday.
