Tribute to great-grandad who died after car crash

A great-grandad who died after being hit by a car has been described as "generous and caring" in a family tribute.

Peter Kegg, 84, was on Belle Vue Road in the Southbourne area of Bournemouth when the crash involving a silver Honda Jazz happened on 11 August.

He was taken to hospital and died from his injuries on 24 August. Dorset Police said no arrests had been made and its investigation remained ongoing.

In a tribute released via the force, his children said he would be "greatly missed" and that he was someone "who would help anyone and made a big impact on all those he met".

The tribute said he worked in the social housing sector, becoming one of the youngest directors of housing in the country at the age of 28.

It added that by 1980 he was promoted further to director of housing, health and community services, a post he remained in until he retired.

It continued: "Dad was never materialistic or boastful, despite his successes, and treated every person he met with dignity and respect and I have been told on many occasion that he was a fantastic boss.

"When he wasn't working he was taking part in charity work for causes such as Habitat for Humanity and the local food bank.

"Dad had a passion for motorcars and loved to tinker with the engines.

"In his later life dad enjoyed spending time playing golf, tennis and walking football, as well as spending time with the family in France.

"Every day dad would walk around 10km to keep fit, clocking up some 3,500km a year, which is just incredible.

"We couldn't understand how he found the time to fit everything in but this is a testament to his hardworking and dedicated attitude to all things in life."

Concluding the tribute, his family said he was a "devoted husband to Sylvia and loving dad, grandad and great grandad to great grandchildren and one on the way", adding: "Dad will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him."
