90 at 90, the ride of a lifetime using different modes of transport

"You've only got the one life, so live it."

David Laurillard has spent 90 weeks travelling by 90 different modes of transport.

The 90-year-old, who lives in Andover, Hampshire, started the challenge aged 89 after contemplating his landmark birthday.

"I was lying in bed and thinking back on life. I've done a lot of travelling, I've been very lucky. I knew I had a holiday booked when I'd be flying, and also a holiday when I'd be going on a boat," he explained.

He set about finding more vehicles to ride as part of his challenge which is raising money for nine charities.

"It's fun. The crazier the things are, the better," he said.

David started with the obvious - car, motorbike, train, aeroplane.

Then he had to be more creative - pedalo, chair lift, hovercraft, narrowboat, skateboard, Segway.

"I did four forklift trucks, a roadsweeper, police car, kayak, tractor. I went up the chimney lift in Battersea Power Station," he told the BBC.

For the 90th ride, he needed something special and went for the zipwire on Bournemouth Pier.

"I didn't think I'd ever do it," he said.

He predicted the "worst part" would be getting up the tower.

But after riding the 250m to the beach, David said he "thoroughly enjoyed it".

"I'd recommend anybody to do it if they can. I'll find something else to do next year," he added.
