Londoners report 130 hours of delays on Tube line
Getty ImagesCommuters on London's District line have reported losing more than 130 hours to delays and poor service, according to campaigners.
Since the Fix the District campaign's website launched in February, commuters have been logging their negative experiences on the Tube line.
Passengers on the Wimbledon to East Putney stretch have said the issues on the line were causing people to change jobs to avoid having to use it, and that infrequent services and regular signalling problems at stations had become an everyday frustration, campaigners told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).
Transport for London (TfL) said it had invested about £500,000 to improve the signalling infrastructure.
Max Barber, who is from from Southfields and leads the campaign, said: "People have said they won't move to Southfields because of the District line.
"I also know one person who changed their job because of the reliability issues."
Southfields is served by the south-western stretch of the District line linking Wimbledon with central London.
Harrison GallivenBarber said he now often rides a Lime bike to nearby Earlsfield station, where he can catch the more reliable National Rail service to Waterloo.
The reports of unreliability also refer to the departure boards at stations along the line, with commuters complaining that they often display inaccurate information.
"We actually have to explain to friends who come and visit us make sure you look for what is on the train because the board is wrong," Barber said. "It's insane."
Richard Jones, director of asset performance delivery for London Underground, said the £500,000 investment had "made a positive difference".
"We know that historically there have been problems with the service that we have delivered to customers who live in this area, and we will continue to work with Network Rail to improve it as much as we can," he said.
