A major route in Suffolk has been closed after a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, police said.

The Orwell Bridge, which carries the A14 south of Ipswich, is shut in both directions between junction 56 for Wherstead and junction 57 at the Nacton interchange.

The accident happened on the bridge at 03:41 BST, and the road is likely to be closed for several hours, Suffolk Police said.

Congestion is building up towards Ipswich, and the force has asked drivers to find alternative routes.
