Speed limit reduced on major road due to heat
GoogleThe speed limit has been temporarily reduced on sections of the A140 in Suffolk due to the hot weather.
Suffolk Highways said lowering the limit to 40mph would reduce "additional stress" on the road surface and help minimise the risk of damage during the continued high temperatures.
The measure covers three sections, totalling about eight miles, between Stuston, near Diss, and Wetheringsett, until the end of September.
"In extended periods of hot weather like we've been experiencing, the road surface temperatures stay much higher than the air temperatures, and it takes far longer for them to cool down," added Suffolk Highways.
