Firefighters say the cause of the fire was a pile of clothes on a cooker

A woman, two birds and a dog were rescued from a house fire caused by clothes on a cooker.

Firefighters were called to reports of a small kitchen fire in Bramford Road, Ipswich at 14:06 BST on Thursday.

A pile of clothing had been left on the cooker which had accidentally switched on, causing the fire, Suffolk Fire and Rescue said.

The woman was treated for smoke inhalation, the service said.

Police closed the road for a short time.
