Murder arrest after man dies following assault

A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man who was assaulted outside a club died in the aftermath.

Dorset Police said it received a report about the assault outside the Parkstone Trades and Labour Club in Ashley Road in Poole at 00:46 BST on 14 June.

The 68-year-old victim, from Christchurch, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he died the on 21 June.

The force said the suspect, from Poole, who was previously arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and released on bail, had been released a second time as enquiries continue.

Police say the two men had known each other and the victim's family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Det Insp Mark Jenkins said thoughts remained with the deceased man's loved ones.

"I would urge anyone who has any information relating to this matter and has not already spoken to police to please make contact with us."
