Surgery evacuated due to fire at derelict hospital
BBCA health centre has been evacuated after the derelict hospital next to it caught fire.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service said eight fire engines and a turntable ladder were sent to the Old Keynsham Hospital, on St Clements Road in Keynsham, on Thursday afternoon.
St Augustine's Medical Practice said Keynsham Health Centre had been evacuated and staff would be rescheduling appointments, with the most urgent to be prioritised.
The fire service, which has closed nearby roads, said the cause of the blaze was currently unknown. It said those living nearby should keep their doors and windows shut and stay inside due to "a large smoke plume".
No injuries were reported, the fire service said.
"Please be aware there is a lot of smoke still in the area," the fire service said at 15:00 BST.
"If you're on the school run, travelling in the area, or live nearby, please keep your doors and windows closed and try to remain inside to reduce any smoke inhalation.
"Local roads near St Clements Road, Keynsham, are closed while we deal with the incident due to a large number of fire engines and vehicles.
"Please try to avoid the area while we deal with the fire."

The fire service thanked residents for their patience.
In a statement posted on social media, the medical practice said Keynsham Health Centre was likely to remain shut for the rest of the day.
"Please bear with us and be patient with our reception teams whilst we reorganise the diary," the post said.
