Trolleys being 'lobbed off' multi-store car park
GoogleA police report to two authorities has recommended ways to prevent "shopping trolleys being lobbed off" a multi-storey car park, a meeting heard.
The issue at West Street Multi Storey Car Park in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, was discussed at a Central Bedfordshire Council's police and crime advisory panel meeting.
Solutions for the problem included putting up barriers or closing off the top floor to prevent anti-social behaviour and other risks.
Ch Insp Jim Goldsmith, from Bedfordshire Police, told the panel the council had received the force's evaluation which put forward recommendations to stop the incidents, alongside other crimes.
The chief inspector added that after the council had looked at the report he would ask for "more help to resolve the situation".
The issue was also discussed by the Leighton-Linslade partnership committee last month, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Liberal Democrat councillor at Central Beds, Kevin Pughe, said: "We set a priority around the town centre, where trolleys are being lobbed off the top of the multi-storey car park.
"The local authority has had a formal response from the police about the car park being dangerous because of this anti-social behaviour."
The chairman of the LB First business group, Gennaro Borrelli, said: "One idea was to enable the street watch team, which comes under Bedfordshire Police, to use what was the car park kiosk."
He said the kiosk could be used by volunteers and could "act as a deterrent" and prevent some people accessing the roof.
