A man has been arrested on suspicion of importing zombie knives into the UK from Finland.

The machete style blades were banned under new legislation introduced in 2024, making their sale or possession a criminal offence.

Merseyside Police said a 19-year-old man from Whiston had been detained on suspicion of importing prohibited weapons with intent to evade a restriction.

He was also arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis.

Det Ch Insp Gary Stratton said: "There is no good reason for owning a 'zombie knife' or machete and they have absolutely no place in our communities.

"These weapons are incredibly dangerous and thankfully we've been able to seize two of them and arrest a suspect.

"There's no hiding place for criminals who look abroad as a way to get their hands on bladed weapons. We will find them and they will be removed from our streets."
